PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can perform the operation of maintaining and recovering a head without decreasing a printing speed. SOLUTION: A platen member 2 for guiding the carrying of a medium 10 to be recorded in the state of facing a line recording head 1 is provided in such a manner as to be movable between an unreceding position to face the recording head 1, and a receding position wherein a cap member 3 for capping a nozzle surface 1a of the recording head 1 faces the recording head 1. A plurality of openings 21y, 21m, 21c and 21k are formed in such a manner as to correspond to respective nozzle arrays 11 of the recording head 1 of the platen member 2.
