A method of generating a crystal of a molecule-of-interest and a kit therefor

The invention relates to a method of generating a crystal containing a molecule-of-interest comprising: (a) contacting said molecule-of-interest with a crystallization carrier, the crystallization carrier being a well-crystallizing molecule structurally different from the molecule-of-interest and not being capable of homomultimerizing, using a heterologous intermolecular linker comprising a carrier-binding site and a molecule-of-interest-binding site, the linker being capable of interlinking crystallization carrier and molecule-of-interest or a recognition signal thereof, thereby forming a crystallizable complex, whereby linker and molecule-of-interest are non-covalently interlinked, and crystallization carrier and molecule-of-interest are exclusively contacted by the linker; and (b) subjecting said complex to crystallization-inducing conditions which are derived from the crystallization conditions of the crystallization carrier and/or a complex consisting of crystallization carrier and linker, thereby generating a crystal containing the molecule-of-interest.
