A lighting device has a light source and optical device subordinating the light source in a radiating direction. Between the light source and the optical device is a primary optical element with a light entrance and a light exit, and is designed so that a specified radiation characteristic corresponding to a radiation characteristic through targeted reflections in the primary optical element and a targeted projection of the light exit or an imaginary surface, is formed by the optical device. An independent claim is included for a primary optical element.
