The method involves effecting a regeneration of a particle filter (5) by soot combustion, where the filter is arranged in an exhaust gas line (3) of an internal combustion engine. Exhaust gas temperature between the filter and an exhaust gas catalytic converter (6) e.g. SCR-catalytic converter, is determined. Cooling fluid is added into the line if the temperature exceeds a preset limit temperature and/or maximum slew rate.
