Disclosed is a planographic printing plate material comprising a support and provided thereon, a photopolymerizable light sensitive layer and a protective layer in the order, wherein the protective layer contains a polyvinyl alcohol derivative A having a saponification degree of 90 to 100 mol% and a solubility of 0.1 to 10 g per liter of 50 °C water, and wherein a viscosity at 20 °C of an aqueous solution containing 4% by weight of the polyvinyl alcohol derivative, measured according to JIS K6726, is from 4.5 to 200 mPa·s.
