A metal flashing, for providing a straight edged support for a building's exterior cladding and for ventilating a wall cavity behind the cladding, comprises a single length of metal incorporating four parallel folds. The folds are made such that a lower region of the flashing forms a V-shape, which is said to direct moisture from the wall cavity away from the building. A row of ventilation holes is provided along the fold of the V-shape. The flashing is secured to vertical cavity battens by its uppermost vertical face. A second face, perpendicular to the uppermost vertical face, provides a straight edge for solid or modified plaster to finish to.
