Apparatus and methods for guiding a cutting tool on a sheet of material are disclosed. The sheet material 100 has a number of fiducial lines 112 marked on its upper surface. A guide 216 mounted on a cutting tool 200, such as a circular saw, has a set of alignment marks 220 and at least three measurement scales 222. Each measurement scale corresponds to at least one of the fiducial lines so that when one of the alignment marks is aligned with a fiducial line the corresponding scale indicates the distance from the blade to an edge of the sheet material.
