The method involves deforming a seal ring (20) for taking an oval shape, and engaging a projecting part (24) of a lip (21) located at one end of a distance (L) of the deformed ring in a groove. The deformed ring is plated against an opening of a bore, and plated against wall of the bore when non-engaged part of the lip is aligned with the groove. The deformation of the ring is removed and the seal ring is pushed into the bore. The distance (L) separates the projecting part (24) at one end of major axis of the deformed ring and a point at another end of the major axis of the ring. An independent claim is also included for a device to implement a method for placing a lip of a seal ring in a groove located in a bore and opened in radial direction towards interior of the bore.
