Oxidation colorant for coloring keratin fibers, especially hair, contains: (a) 5-halo-2,4-diamino-alkylbenzene(s) (I) as coupler component; and (b) bicyclic developer component(s) (II) and/or pyrimidine derivative(s) (III) as developer component in an aqueous medium. An independent claim is also included for a method of coloring keratin fibers, especially hair, by treatment with this colorant and an oxidant and/or catalyst to activate oxidation and rinsing with water or an aqueous surfactant formulation after an action time.
