PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain powder for an electroviscous fluid, a nonaqueous electroviscous fluid satisfying demand characteristics of a use member of energy absorption, vibration isolation, etc., especially a nonaqueous dispersion type electroviscous fluid having high induced shear stress and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The powder for an electroviscous fluid comprises powder obtained by forming a conductive thin film layer on hollow powder and further an insulative thin film layer on the surface of the conductive thin film layer. Since an electroviscous fluid using powder obtained by forming a conductive thin film layer on hollow powder and further an insulative thin film layer on the surface of the conductive thin film layer does not cause precipitation of the powder and imprpoves smoothness on the surface, a nonaqueous dispersion type electroviscous fluid having high reliability and high induced shear stress is obtained.
