PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biaxially oriented polyester film for a flexible printed circuit board that has a highly flat circuit forming surface and is excellent in dimensional stability to heat and a traveling property. SOLUTION: The biaxially oriented polyester film for the flexible printed circuit board formed with an applied layer on one surface of a base material layer composed of polyethylene-2, 6-naphthalene dicarboxylate satisfies all of the following characteristics:(1) The 10-point average height Rz on the surface of the base material layer of the film is 2-30 nm, (2) The 10-point average height Rz on the surface of the applied layer of the film is 50-150 nm, and (3) The heat shrinkage factor of the film in both lengthwise and widthwise directions when the film is heated to 200°C for 10 minutes is≤1.5%.
