PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a corrosion estimating method of a steel material capable of measuring/evaluating the corrosion of the steel material with high precision without excessively damaging existing concrete. SOLUTION: A core 6 is sampled by boring a existing structure 1 in which the steel material is embedded to form a boring hole 5. Next, the core 6 is observed not only to determine the installation positions of monitoring test specimens 7 but also to measure the amount of the chloride of the core 6. Then, the monitoring test specimens 7, each of which is formed by coating a divided reinforcing rod 23 having a concrete resistance sensor 27, a reference electrode, a counter electrode 29, a temperature sensor 31 and a current measuring lead wire 13 arranged thereto is coated with porous concrete 21, are installed in the boring hole 5 and parts where no monitoring test specimens 7 are installed are filled with unshrinkable mortar 9. Thereafter, the monitoring test specimens 7 are used to acquire data related to predetermined items. Further, the amount of the chloride obtained by analyzing the core 6 and the data acquired by monitoring are used to estimate the corrosion speed of the steel material in the existing structure 1.
