PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of designing a base isolation structure for a general house in accordance with target strokes. SOLUTION: Using a first design chart and a second design chart, Dmax/Dx, Ay/Ax and T'/TE as the response performance of a damper are found which satisfy a bilinear coefficient p and a ductility factorμof the damper having a viscous damping constant h. The first and second design charts are prepared for different viscous damping constants h. Then, from a relationship among Dmax/Dx, Ay/Ax and T'/TE, a mass m of a building and false speed spectrums pSv, x in viscous damping x% of earthquake motion, a yield load Qy of the damper is found and response absolute acceleration ABSmax is calculated and examined. Elastic rigidity k is found from the yield load Qy and response deformation Xmax. The design charts are used as indexes for designing the damper having desired base isolation performance.
