Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture consistent with the present invention provide for the distributed data-centric capture, sharing and managing of intellectual capital. A distributed system enables the sharing of structured and unstructured knowledge using a publish and subscribe pattern. An evolving ontology of knowledge types is maintained within the system and the storage of the knowledge that flows through the system is implicit and maintained according to a defined time of relevance for each knowledge type. The system associates the data with a datatype that has a format that is readable by other users of the system, then shares the datatype with relevant subscribers on the system. Upon receiving the datatype, the subscribers can also access the data, which is maintained separately from the datatype. Thus, newly acquired knowledge is almost instantaneously and asynchronously received by system users, who may be confronted with an issue that requires the newly acquired knowledge. |
