A data collection system (608) collects tear film osmolarity measurements for a plurality of patients suffering from dry eye. The measurement information (604) can be stored in a database and used to track treatment efficacies and other trends in the treatment and response of the patients. The measurement information can be associate with patient history information, but the anonymity of the patients can be maintained.
