PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for desulfurizing petroleum, by which the petroleum can efficiently be desulfurized without subjecting the petroleum to a high temperature and high pressure. SOLUTION: This method for desulfurizing the petroleum, comprising separating sulfur-reduced petroleum from sulfur-containing petroleum, is characterized by comprising an atomizing process for subjecting the sulfur-containing petroleum to an ultrasonic vibration treatment to release and atomize the petroleum in a state of atomized fine particles floated in a carrying gas, thus separating into a mixture fluid of atomized fine particles with the carrying gas and the non-atomized left petroleum, and a recovery process for separating and recovering petroleum from the mixture fluid obtained in the atomizing process, wherein the petroleum is separated into the left petroleum and the mixture fluid in the atomizing process, and the petroleum is recovered from the mixture fluid to produce the desulfurized petroleum in the recovery process.
