PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switch which assures proper operation, even if its service environment becomes low in temperature and prevents overheating. SOLUTION: This optical switch has a stationary optical fiber holder which holds one of input/output optical fibers, a moving optical fiber holder which holds the other of the input/output optical fibers and faces the stationary optical fiber holder and is movable relative thereto and a driver for relatively moving the moving optical fiber holder, with respect to the stationary optical fiber holder soaked in a refractive index matching material, such as silicone oil. A housing of this optical switch is provided internally with a heater for heating the refractive index matching material and a means for detecting the temperature in the housing, and has a controller for supplying electric power to the heater, when the measured value of the temperature detecting means is lower than a first predetermined value and for cutting the electric power supply to the heater, when the measured value is higher than the predetermined value. |
