<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adaptive arithmetic decoding method and apparatus thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The adaptive arithmetic decoding method and apparatus include a context extractor 420 for extracting a plurality of contexts each, including a state value for probability characteristic; a first ROM table 440 storing current probability information for decoding a current symbol, on a status value of each context; a second ROM table 450 storing predicted probability information for decoding a next symbol on a status value of each context; a general mode arithmetic decoder 460 which performs pipeline processing for loading current probability information, on the basis of a current state value of an inputted context to decode a current symbol, and for simultaneously loading predicted probability information; and a bypass mode arithmetic decoder 470, in which a plurality of calculators are configured in a parallel processing structure, to simultaneously decode a plurality of remaining symbols on predetermined conditions. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
