PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin, lightweight and low-cost organic EL element with excellent moisture resistance applicable to a top-emission type taking out emission light from the side of a sealing base material. SOLUTION: In the organic electroluminescent element made by laminating a positive electrode layer 2, an organic luminous medium layer 3, a negative electrode layer 4, an adhesive layer 5, and the sealing material 6 on a support base material 1, uneven parts are to be provided at a peripheral edge part each of the support material and the sealing material for biting each other, a part or a whole of the uneven parts is to be forward tapered at an angle of 45°or less, and the uneven parts are to be continuously provided at the peripheral edge part each of the support base material and the sealing base material.
