FORWARD DETECTION SONAR AND UNDERWATER IMAGING DISPLAY APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forward detection sonar capable of detecting a wide range by an oscillator array constituted of a relatively small number of elements without omissions in detection due to the simultaneous return of echoes. SOLUTION: The oscillator array 2 is divided into a first sub-array A and a second sub-array B and is provided with both a first beam forming part 12a for forming a first receive beam at the first sub-array A and a second beam forming part 12b for forming a second receive beam at the second sub-array B. A wide range of echoes are acquired by the receive beams at the same time. The bearing of every echo is determined by a split beam method through the use of the first receive beam and the second receive beam. The distance of the echo is determined on the basis of the return time of the echo.
