PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a governor for an elevator in which the entire shape thereof can be miniaturized. SOLUTION: The governor for the elevator has a sheave 2 mounted on a governor base 9, a ratchet 3 arranged concentric with the sheave 2, and a rod 5 mounted on the ratchet 3. A shoe base 7 having a shoe 10 to press a governor rope 11 of the sheave 2 is mounted on a governor base 9. An eccentric roller 14 to press the shoe base 7 is mounted on a tip of the rod 5. The rod 5 is mounted on one shaft 14a of the eccentric roller 14, and an eccentric roller mounting base 15 mounted on the governor base 9 is mounted on the other shaft 14b of the eccentric roller 14.
