PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a difference in floating amounts between floating profiles by providing the characteristic of no changes in floating amounts with respect to both of a peripheral speed change and a yaw angle change caused by the difference of a magnetic disk radial direction in a magnetic head slider. SOLUTION: A 2-stage stepped surface is provided through a step on the contact surface 112 of the flow-in pad 11 or the flow-out pad 12 of a magnetic head slider 1. When the depth of the stepped surface 114 of a first stage with respect to the contact surface 112 isδs, the depth of the stepped surface 116 of a second state isδr, the length of the slider 1 in an air flow-in direction is L, and a distance between the air flow flow-in end of the slider and a dimple position is xp, then 0.047<=δs/δr<=0.364, and 0.002<=xp/L<=0.4, or 0.008<=δs/δr<=0.025 and 0.55<=xp/L are set.
