PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the security of recorded information cannot be fully maintained by a conventional method such as mathematical encryption. SOLUTION: The problem is solved by using a method of recording and reproducing information. The method comprises steps of preparing information to be recorded, information called as a reading key by which anyone who knows it can specify a base used for recording each bit but anyone who does not know it cannot specify the base, and an algorithm for deciding the base of each bit from the reading key; selecting the state generated for each bit from a group of the quantum state selected so that a measurement value corresponding to the information to be recorded is obtained when a reading procedure corresponding to each base is carried out, but a measurement value corresponding to the information to be recorded is not obtained even if unitary conversion corresponding to a different base is carried out; generating the quantum state in a recording medium; retenting the state; and deciding the base of each bit in accordance with the reading key and the implementation of the reading procedure corresponding to the base.
