PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording/reproducing method and device with which the data is easily and efficiently copied from one recording medium to another recording medium, in the data recording/reproducing device provided with a plurality of recording media such as an HDD and a DVD. SOLUTION: The device is equipped with: a compression processing section 101 for performing the compression processing of input data; a recording processing section 102 for recording them to the HDD 107, DVD 108 which are the plurality of recording media, on the basis of the outputs from the compression processing section 101; a reproduction processing section 103 for reproducing the recorded data from the HDD 107 or DVD 108 and outputting the resultant data; a priority inputting section 105 for inputting priority information which is decided by the user, to the input data; a priority control section 106 for reading the priority information from the reproduction processing section 103; and a re-compression processing section 104 for performing re-compression processing of the data reproduced from the DVD 108 or HDD 107 under the control of the priority control section 106 and copying the resultant data to the HDD 107 or DVD 108 via the recording processing section 102.
