PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element maintaining light transmissibility over a long term, a lens unit, and an imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: Insulating liquid and conductive liquid having a different refractive index each other, liquated each other and respectively having the light transmissibility, are stored in a liquid container constituted of plastic through which gas is transmitted. Furthermore, the optical element is equipped with a 1st electrode coming into contact with the conductive liquid and a 2nd electrode insulated from the conductive liquid, and the shape of a boundary surface between the conductive liquid and the insulating liquid is changed by applying voltage having a reverse polarity to each other to the 1st electrode and the 2nd electrode. At such a time, the gas generated by electrolyzing the conductive liquid comes off to the outside of the plastic liquid container, so that the light transmissibility is maintained over a long term.
