PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of preventing color unevenness in a projected image. SOLUTION: A color separating optical apparatus 30 constituting the projector 1 is provided with a dichroic mirror 31 for separating a luminous flux emitted from a light source apparatus 10 into blue light and light in another color, and a dichroic mirror 32 for separating the light in another color into green light and red light. Regarding respective optical paths from the dichroic mirror 31 to respective liquid crystal panels 42B, 42G and 42R, the geometric optical path length of the 3rd optical path Rop to the liquid crystal panel 42R is set longer than that of the 1st optical path Bop to the liquid crystal panel 42B, and also, set longer than that of the 2nd optical path Gop to the liquid crystal panel 42G. The projector 1 is provided with an image forming optical apparatus 50 for separately forming an image in the arrangement positions of respective liquid crystal panels 42 without forming the image in a position other than the arrangement positions of respective liquid crystal panels 42 on respective optical paths Bop, Gop and Rop.
