PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of causing a root rot state by too much water in the method of enabling water to be absorbed from the lower part to reduce the time and effort for watering in the methods for watering plants in flower pots. SOLUTION: The method is the watering method using a mat for enabling water in an air-containing water layer to be absorbed from the bottom face, and also the cultivation method utilizing a position at which the capillary phenomenon occurs when a nearly closed space referred to the air-containing water layer includes water. The space is obtained by using a material such as peanut hulls easily causing the capillary phenomenon even if the amount is large, or other hardly-rotting materials. As a result, the water-absorbing part stops the water absorption when the water-absorbing part is dried but when the water-absorbing part is wetted, the water absorption is continued again. When the water is much, the root rot is caused, but it is discovered that when oxygen is supplied, the problem is solved. Preferably, the distance between the main bottom face of the soil and the water at the high water level is regulated so as to be 2-3 cm to prevent the main bottom face of the soil from contacting with or approaching the water level, and water is preferably present always.
