<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining a high-purity aromatic dihydroxy compound useful as a raw material, etc., for producing a polycarbonate by which a waste aromatic polycarbonate (e.g. an aromatic polycarbonate product such as a CD, a CD-ROM or a DVD which became unnecessary) is inexpensively treated in a large amount in a short degradation time. <P>SOLUTION: The method for obtaining the aromatic dihydroxy compound from the waste aromatic polycarbonate is characterized as follows. The waste aromatic polycarbonate is degraded in the presence of a halogenated hydrocarbon compound solvent and a metal hydroxide catalyst by transesterification with a 1-4C alcohol. An aqueous solution of an inorganic acid is added to neutralize the reaction mixture liquid after the degradation while keeping the liquid temperature within the range of 0-70°C. The organic solvent phase and the aqueous solution phase are separated to recover the organic solvent phase. The solid aromatic dihydroxy compound is then obtained from the recovered organic solvent phase. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
