<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve operating system that enables a closing valve timing to be significantly variable than an opening valve timing through a single rocker-arm mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: A variable valve operating system has a first arm 25 supported in a way to allow a free oscillation by a rocker-shaft 11 as a rocker-arm mechanism 19 for opening/closing a valve 5, a second arm 35 driven by a cam 15 and oscillated with the rocker-shaft side serving as a fulcrum, a third arm 45 provided in a way to allow free oscillation at a supporting shaft 13 arranged in the vicinity of the rocker-shaft, and causes a cam phase to be variable through changes in attitudes that the movement of the fulcrum of the second arm brings about to drive the first arm, and a variable mechanism 44 for causing the fulcrum of the second arm to be variable.
