An RFID tag (100) which couples a radiating element or antenna (101) to an integrated circuit (102) without a physical conductor. The radiating element (101) comprises a coil (105). The integrated circuit (102) is affixed to the substrate (103) having the antenna (101) in such a way that the circuit chip coil (105) is inductively coupled to the antenna coil (105). When the RFID tag (100) is excited via the antenna (101), the inductive coupling causes both signaling and power to couple from the antenna (101) to the circuit chip coil (105) without a physical conductor connecting the antenna (101) to the RFID tag integrated circuit (102).
