PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system or the like including an optical element which has variable optical properties, a large variable magnification, an excellent focusing performance and reduced power consumptions, ensures noiseless operation and fast response and contributes to cost reductions by reason of compact and simplified mechanical structure. SOLUTION: The optical apparatus comprises: an optical element 409 having variable optical properties; an optical element group 805 having a negative power; and an optical element group 806 having a positive power.
