PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the belt skew in the width direction of a belt fixing device. SOLUTION: A pressure belt 110 laid over support rollers 114a and 114b, and a skew control roller 114c is press-contacted with a fixing roller 101. The pressure belt 110 is pressed against the fixing roller 101 by a pressure member 111 fixed on a support member 121 energized by a compression spring 122, forming a contact nip region 120. A MEMS pressure sensor 123 is buried in the pressure member 111, and directly measures the pressing force of the contact nip region 120. Based on the result of the measurement, a cam is driven so that the pressing force becomes uniform across the width of the pressure belt 110. By this arrangement, the skew of the pressure belt 110 is suppressed, and stable fixing performance and gross control are achieved, without being affected by the quality and the thickness of the recording material, the temperature, or the amount of a toner.
