PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an electrochemical display element in which an electrochemical display medium and a substrate are tightly adhered without leaving air bubbles on the interface and little display defect is caused on energizing, without requiring a step of stripping the electrochemical display medium from a filter material. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an electrochemical display element is carried out by holding an electrochemical display medium between a transparent substrate having a transparent electrode and a material having electronic conductivity. The method includes: a step (2) of dispersing an organic-inorganic composite material comprising at least one kind or more of organic polymers selected from a group consisting of polyamide, polyurethane and polyurea and an inorganic compound made of silica or a metal oxide, in an electrolytic liquid to prepare a dispersion liquid; a step (4) of filtering the dispersion liquid through a filter material made of a material having electronic conductivity to produce an electrochemical display medium comprising the organic-inorganic composite material containing the electrolytic liquid; and a step (5) of tightly adhering the surface of the electrochemical display medium not in contact with the filter material to the transparent substrate.
