PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To implement a traffic information providing system capable of distributing traffic information suitable for environments of a narrow display screen and slow transmission speeds of a cellular phone etc. SOLUTION: The traffic information providing system 10 comprises both a traffic information server 11 for processing traffic information received from a traffic information center 17 into a summary map and providing it and a client terminal 15 for displaying the summary map provided from the traffic information providing server at the reception of input from users. By providing the traffic information providing server 11 with a map summarization processing means for integrating parallel links of road maps, traffic information by a summary map intelligible even on a narrow screen and capable of further reducing the amount of data is provided.
