PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for monitoring the processing of a β-amyloid precursor protein (βAPP). SOLUTION: The processing of a β-amyloid precursor protein (βAPP) can be monitored by detecting the secretion of a soluble βAPP fragment caused by the cleavage of βAPP at the amino terminal of a β-amyloid peptide. The in vivo monitoring of the secretion of the βAPP fragment is monitored by the diagnosis and progress of Alzheimer's disease and other β-amyloid relating diseases, and the in vitro monitoring of the secretion from a cultured cell is carried out for the identification of an inhibitor for the formation of β-amyloid.
