PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resolution conversion method and a resolution conversion apparatus to converse an input image into an output image with a desired size of resolution while avoiding an image quality deterioration factor from being generated. SOLUTION: The resolution conversion method of this invention includes a step to calculate an intermediate result image by performing an edge directivity interpolation on the input video image, and a step to calculate the output image of the desired resolution by conversing a sampling rate according to the intermediate result. The edge direction interpolation includes a step to assume an edge direction by using an absolute value difference of input image pixels, a step to properly determine an interpolation coefficient based on a pixel value in a position corresponding to the assumed edge direction, a step to calculate an edge direction interpolation value by using the edge direction and the interpolation coefficient, and a step to calculate a final interpolation value by properly blending the edge direction interpolation value and an interpolation value by a desired linear interpolation method.
