PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermediate acceleration type escalator capable of realizing intermediate acceleration by adequately adjusting the footstep moving speed near an entrance or an exit with a simple structure, maintaining the distance between footsteps to be at an optimum value, and preventing impairment of walk and movement of passengers. SOLUTION: In the intermediate acceleration type escalator, a pin roller 11 of a footstep chain 10 is fixed in a vicinity of a rear wheel 5 of each footstep 3 and at an intermediate position between a front wheel 4 and the rear wheel 5 so as to constitute a rear fixed pin roller 11a and an intermediate part fixed pin roller 11b, respectively. In the escalator, the rear fixed pin roller 11a of the preceding footstep 3 and the intermediate part fixed pin roller 11b of the succeeding footstep 3 are connected to each other by one chain link 12, and the intermediate part fixed pin roller 11b of the succeeding footstep 3 is movable along an arc of the radius equal to the length of the chain link 12 to connect these pin rollers with the rear fixed pin roller 11a of the preceding footstep 3 as a fulcrum.
