A fire resistant cable and method of manufacture preferably for use in fire alarm systems, comprises at least one insulated electric conductor 20, 24 within a fire resistant protective outer sheath 28 and a metallic tape 26 disposed between the said conductor and the said outer sheath; the metallic tape is folded at its edge, preferably folded back on itself along both longitudinal edges to interlink with each other, the interlinked edges are then rolled inwardly preferably more than 180 degrees of rotation, to facilitate increased reliability in a fire condition. Preferably the metallic tape is constructed from a copper or aluminium foil. Furthermore, the cable may comprise a non-insulated electric conductor 22 contained within and in contact with the metallic tape. |
