PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which can raise user-friendliness. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner is so structured that a control means 71 may control a motor 45 according to tension on a power cord 12 detected by a torque sensor 72, and the power cord 12 drawn from a cord outlet 21 may be adjusted to an optimal length. Therefore, the power cord 12 can be prevented from getting in/out excessively under cleaning or the like, user-friendliness can be improved in comparison with the case that the power cord is taken in/out manually or the like, and the power cord 12 can be prevented from getting excessive load than needed.
