A seal assembly capable of low temperature service comprises upper and lower metallic back-up rings 12, 14 that are specially shaped to act as a spring to keep the sidewalls of such rings in contact with the inside and outside surfaces to be sealed to prevent extrusion of the seal material of a seal body 10. Seal body 10 includes inner and outer grooves 24, 26, 32, 34 for location of respective inner and outer O-ring seals 28, 30, 36, 38. The size and material of the O-rings 28, 30, 36, 38 are chosen to enhance the sealing functionality in cold temperature situations. |
