A process for producing a catalyst with which methacrolein, isobutyraldehyde, or isobutyric acid can be catalytically oxidized in a vapor phase to produce methacrylic acid in high yield with high selectivity. The process, which is for producing a catalyst with which methacrolein, isobutyraldehyde, or isobutyric acid can be catalytically oxidized in a vapor phase to produce methacrylic acid, is characterized by comprising: (a) a step in which compounds each containing any of molybdenum, vanadium, phosphorus, copper, cesium, and NH4 are mixed with water to prepare an aqueous solution or aqueous dispersion (hereinafter, both are collectively referred to as a slurry) of these compounds; (b) a step in which the slurry obtained in the step (a) is dried to obtain a dried slurry; (c) a step in which the dried slurry obtained in the step (b) is burned to obtain a burning product; (d) a step in which the burning product obtained in the step (c) is mixed with water and the mixture is separated by filtration into an aqueous solution and a water-insoluble matter; and (e) a step in which the water-insoluble matter obtained in the step (d) is dried to obtain a dried water-insoluble matter.
|
