An apparatus is provided for scaling up low resolution image data from a 1<st> resolution to a 2<nd> resolution, the data represented by 2x2 blocks of pixels. The apparatus receives colour component and location data for each of the blocks of pixels (generated from the original image), and derives at least 1<st> and 2<nd> angles of rotation (which can be 0{, 90{, 180{ or 270{) from the location data. Using the angles of rotation, the apparatus outputs a series of modulation values that are calculated from the colour component data: <SL> <LI><B>i)</B> a 1<st> series of values is calculated using the 1<st> angle of rotation and the colour data, <LI><B>ii)</B> a 2<nd> series of values is calculated using the 1<st> series of values and both the 1<st> and 2<nd> angles of rotation. </SL> From this, the apparatus assigned the 2<nd> series of values to the pixels in dependence on the 2<nd> angle of rotation. Further angles of rotation and values can be generated to further enhance the end image. |
