PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a bisphenol derivative having a hydroxyalkyl substituent in high yield. SOLUTION: The method for producing a bisphenol A derivative comprises the production of a hydroxyalkyl-substituted compound from a corresponding compound expressed by general formula (1) in the presence of a reducing agent. In the formula, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a substituent; R<SP>3</SP>to R<SP>6</SP>and R<SP>9</SP>are each hydrogen atom or a substituent; R<SP>7</SP>and R<SP>8</SP>are each an aliphatic group or an aromatic group; and L<SB>1</SB>and L<SB>2</SB>are each a linking group.
