A flat key for a locking device has a generally T-shaped cross-section with a stem having oppositely-disposed sides each having at least one longitudinal groov e. The side walls of the grooves and the end of the stem are curved circularly or elliptically so as to provide the key with rounded surfaces. A key as provided herein avoids sharp edges and angles thereby reducing the possibility of damage or injury.
