摘要 FIELD: transport. ^ SUBSTANCE: wheel (4) is rolled over locator rail (1) to measure time interval between the moment the wheel closes each of two optical channels specifically spaces apart along the rail track and at equal height above the rail. The measured time is used to determine the wheel speed and, at the same time, the time interval during which the wheel shuts off the optical channels to define, from the aforesaid time interval, the wheel chord length. For the same wheel, the chord length is measured in two parallel planes spaced apart for a certain distance. Two values of chord lengths result to allow defining, from computed formulae, the diameter of the wheel surface rolling and the wheel flange height relative to the rolling surface. The proposed device comprises integrated blocks (2, 3) of optical pairs (5), located in two spaced apart parallel planes above the rail rolling surface.
