<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent color deviation resulting from a load change such as contact/separation of a transfer cleaner, and the occurrence of a defective image resulting from nonuniform exposure. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus for forming a color image by transferring images of respective colors onto an intermediate transfer belt 7 one on the other includes: a drive means 13 for driving the intermediate transfer belt 7; a load acting means 12 for applying drive load to the intermediate transfer belt 7; and a distance alteration means 21 for altering a distance on the intermediate transfer belt 7 between the drive means 13 and a primary transfer section T1. The distance alteration means 21 alters a distance on the intermediate transfer belt 7 so that an amount of displacement of the intermediate transfer belt 7 in the primary transfer section T1 caused by the alteration of load by the load acting means 12 offsets an amount of displacement of the intermediate transfer belt 7 in the primary transfer section T1 caused by the operation of the distance alteration means 21. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
