PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize uniform brightness and little noise, when lighting a plurality of discharge tubes. SOLUTION: A discharge tube lighting circuit includes a plurality of first transformers having primary windings, serially connected to one another and having each secondary winding connected to the first terminal of an individual discharge tube; and one or more second transformer(s), each having a secondary winding connected to a second terminal of the corresponding discharge tube so as to supply a voltage having a polarity reverse to that of the first transformer. The first transformers located at both ends of the serially-connected primary windings from among the plurality of first transformers are connected to an A.C. power source. Since the plurality of discharge tubes are driven differentially by the first transformers and the second transformer(s), uniform brightness is realized for all the discharge tubes and noise can be reduced.
