<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a muffler with a catalyst with an enlarged degree of freedom in designing the position and form of an outlet for exhaust gas. <P>SOLUTION: An expansion chamber 25 is parted by a partition panel 23 disposed between a front outer wall panel 21 and a rear outer wall panel 22 to a first expansion chamber 25A and a second expansion chamber 25B. A diffuser 40 in a cylindrical form having a bottom is disposed in the first expansion chamber 25A. A catalyst 30 for emission control having permeability is engaged and fixed in the diffuser 40. Exhaust from an exhaust port 10 provided in a cylinder 2 is introduced through the catalyst 30 into the first expansion chamber 25A, and from the first expansion chamber 25A, it is introduced through an opening 23e formed in the partition panel 23 to the second expansion chamber 25B to be discharged from the second expansion chamber 25B outward through the outlet 29 formed in the front outer wall panel 21. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
