The gearshift lever system of modular construction comprises a lever body(1) upon which are mounted several customer-specific switch modules(40) with one or more operating element(4) for the switching of functions to the customer's specification in the vehicle. The lever body has a standardized first connecting element(10) for the attachment of the switch module, and all the switch modules have a standardized second connecting element(12) for connection to the first element.
