PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to plainly notify the inside state of an apparatus by displaying the operational state of each driving part by indicators (light emitting means or the like) of a recording and reproducing apparatus provided with two or more driving parts for reading/writing from/to a recording medium such as an HD and a DVD. SOLUTION: The recording and reproducing apparatus 10 is provided with a BD drive 2 for reading/writing from/to a BD, a DVD drive 3 for reading/writing to/from an HD, an HDD 4 for reading/writing to/from an HD, an indicator part 9 consisting of a light emitting means (LED or the like) corresponding to each drive, a control signal input part 5, and a display control part 6. The recording and reproducing apparatus 10 inputs a control signal for controlling the operation of the BD drive 2 or the DVD drive 3 or the HDD 4, specifying a drive for control from the input control signal, also specifying the operational state (recording, reproduction or the like) of the drive, and notifying the specified drive and the operational state thereof by varying the color or color gradation or the like of the light emitting means.
